The Halifax has released a report showing that renting is currently over £100 more expensive than paying a mortgage a month for first-time buyers. The findings show that the cost of entering the property market has dropped 40% since 1999. Low interest rates and more products being released to first-time buyers have made getting a mortgage more affordable.

Whilst more and more first-time buyers are starting to set foot on the property ladder, the first obstacle still needs to be negotiated - raising the deposit. Most mortgage companies require a 10% deposit of the property value and this is currently averaging out at 27K across the UK. It's little wonder then that more and more parents are recognising the plight of their children and giving them financial assistance so they can fly the nest. …
